Individuals love music, and they love gadgets. So with the advent of the MP3, it appears as if the two have created a successful union. But what exactly is mp3 music?
The actual phrase MP3 is a shorter version of the official name “moving picture experts group - 1 Audio Layer 3.” Basically, MP3 music is a compression of the audio data that makes up a song.
This compression is created by a special algorithm which gets into report the audio sensitivity of human hearing.
Taking advantage of the limitation in our hearing is referred to as auditory masking, and that allows us to determine exactly how much data we need MP3 music to have so that we can hear it properly while still reducing the amount of data that needs to be incorporated within the file.
It is jokingly stated as “the mother of MP3,” but the first advanced piece of MP3 music is maybe “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega. It was one of the first songs which was really used to improve the technology because of its tonal plus harmonious arrangement. Given that the developers could hear all flaws due to the compression process more easily than they would have been able to with another songs that have more complex melodious structure.
MP3 music has come a long way since that first Suzanne Vega song. The music market has evolved, and now MP3 sales are a huge part of their business market. In fact with the evolution if ipods, and portable MP3 music players music has truly never been as accessible as it is now.
